East Village New York
A wild New York night I’ll never forget: It started with drinks at “Beerland,” where we met a stunning Japanese woman. By 3 a.m., we found ourselves at her apartment after she joked about taking all three of us home. What followed was straight out of a fantasy—or a script for a risqué movie. Walter and I took turns, while Michael watched and eventually dozed off on a kitchen chair. It was surreal, awkward, and unforgettable. The night bonded Walter and me as lifelong friends, and I’m still left marveling at how certain fantasies sometimes, unexpectedly, become reality.

The upcoming wedding of one of my best friends brought back memories of a story from New York that we’ll probably never forget. It was one of those rare moments when fantasies turn into reality. The protagonists: a long-legged Japanese woman, Michael, Walter, and me.

It was April, and we were sitting on the balcony of a vacation rental in Switzerland. Michael took a drag from his hand-rolled cigarette and suddenly said, “Hey, I need to tell you something.” I sensed something serious was coming and replied, “Go ahead!” – “I think she’s the one,” he said. “Christina. I think she’s the woman of my life. I think we’re going to get married.” I nodded, “If you think so. Just ask her what she thinks about it.” Four weeks later, I received an email invitation to the wedding in September.

A few years earlier, in New York: Michael was visiting, and although we were both tired, we decided to go out. We ended up at “Beerland,” a small bar in the East Village. There we met Gisela, Walter, and a Japanese woman who immediately fascinated me: around 30 years old, nearly 5’11” tall, long legs, a slim figure, a beautiful face, and a tight-fitting dress that showed off her silhouette. She mostly flirted with Walter, so I settled for small talk and learned that she was a corporate lawyer and was moving to Los Angeles the next day to start a new job.

Later, while I was standing at the bar getting a drink, I suddenly felt her dancing up behind me. She wrapped her arms around me and whispered in my ear, “Come dance with me.” Walter was dancing alone on the floor, and she pulled me toward him. Together, the three of us danced – right in the middle of the bar, under everyone’s gaze. Then she leaned in and whispered, “You know what would really turn me on? If you kissed Walter.” I politely declined, “Sorry, I’m straight.” Disappointed, she turned her attention back to Walter.

At 3 a.m., the bar closed. Outside, she suddenly said, “So, I guess I have to take all three of you home now.” It sounded less like a question and more like a statement. Walter grinned, grabbed his BMX bike, and called out, “I’ll get condoms!” Michael and I walked her to her apartment. I still thought this was all just a game, but she invited us upstairs.

Once inside, she offered us a glass of wine. Then she began kissing me, pulling Michael in, though he hesitated. Eventually, she unbuttoned my pants, and things got serious. Suddenly, the doorbell rang: Walter was back. He entered the kitchen, where I was already half-naked – right in the middle of everything.

What happened next was more like a script for an adult film. Walter and I took turns while Michael watched and eventually dozed off in a kitchen chair. At one point, the Japanese woman was on all fours between us. Walter was behind her, and I was receiving her attention. Our eyes met. Time seemed to freeze. “Crazy, huh?” I said to break the tension. “But don’t overthink it. Live the moment. This is pure adult fantasy!” Michael softly snored in the background as we carried on.

By 5 a.m., we left her apartment. It was already light out, and we walked home in silence. Now and then, I lifted my hand to my nose – the subtle scent of the Japanese woman lingered. It wasn’t a dream. That night would stay with me forever.

A few days later, I talked to Walter. The Japanese woman had already left, but that night had left its mark on both of us. Since then, we’ve been completely honest with each other – a bond of friendship that lasts to this day.

At the wedding, Michael and I reminisced about that night. “The wild times are over, right?” I asked. But Michael just grinned and replied, “Who says you can’t have adventures with your wife?” Maybe not gangbangs or threesomes, but there are still plenty of fantasies to fulfill. After all, what would life be without dreams and imagination?

Julia

Three months after the move I move in with Julia near Mayakovskaya. Pink lace curtains, a gas cooker from the eighties – none of it matters, I think I’ve found the woman of my dreams. Then her birthday comes and I learn how Russian parties work: a restaurant for a thousand euros, presents worth two to three hundred. That evening I’m still thinking I want to marry her. The next morning she picks a fight over nothing. From then on it goes downhill – all the way to the sentence that says everything: in Russia a man pays for his woman.

Leaving the Island

Six months later Julia is standing at Tenerife airport – and I realise I don’t actually know this woman at all. One week of glass walls, sea views and terrace, then the tears come at the gate. Afterwards I stand alone at Medano beach and watch her plane go. New York or Moscow? When the landlord calls in September, I answer without thinking. At the beginning of October I leave the island at 30 degrees, with 180 kilos of excess baggage and a snowboard going down the belt.
